DAILY POEM "INN OF HAPPINESS" PART 26

[product thumbnail]

CHAPTER 2

Travelling on in a rusted old car
The trio longed for a rest
Adventure ahead somewhere to go
Was a dream they wished they could test.

Lily was tired it shown on her face
She wasn't as young as she was
Demetrius still looked at her in awe
To him she was styled with grace.

Where should they head for?
The journey was long
Stops became longer each time
The old rugged car on its last legs
Twenty years into its prime.

Money was tight wallets were empty
Demetrius knew he had no chance
Would he have to revert to old ways?
Needs must in this circumstance.

Stopping for gas and water
Was a tedious task
While lily was sipping on gin
From her old silver flask.

Action had to be taken
For life was not very good
Sitting at many camp fires
Hungry without any food.

DAILY POEM "INN OF HAPPINESS" PART 25

[product thumbnail]

Demetrius took Lucky to the park
sat on the same old bench
The only difference noticeable
builders had dug a trench.

He wandered towards the tree
Looking for the etched names
Still there after all these years
The only things missing were the games.

He heard a distant footstep
He never saw Lily behind
He was mesmerised with the past
had nothing on his mind.

Lily looked into his eyes
She saw a tired soul
She brushed her fingers across his head
This woman whose heart he stole.

Both walked down the cobbled streets
Not a word was said
Lily was going nowhere now
And their passion wasn't dead.

Two lost souls with a dog in tow
The remainder of a life together
Promises were made oaths were taken
To be together as one forever.

DAILY POEM "INN OF HAPPINESS" PART 24

[product thumbnail]

Lily never came back that night
Demetrius was overcome with grief
Why did she not return that night
Answers he begged for relief.

He wondered what had happened to her
Why did she leave him that way?
But now he did not torture himself
Only thinking  of her by day.

Ten years on and life had changed
He grew with Lucky by his side
He never had a woman in his life
To eventually be his bride.

This particular night
He decided to go for a drink
Not worrying who was there
Or what they wanted to think.

He never got shaved or dressed
Losing his style and grace
Aged and tired he was
Showing in his face.

He arrived early at the pub'
ordered his bottle of beer
to his utter astonishment
He was served by someone dear.

He took his beer to the corner
Lucky lay by his master
When finishing his beer Demetrius left
He couldn't leave any faster.

[product thumbnail]

The day had finally come
Everything was set to go
Excitement filled the air
From now on they would grow.

Lucky was set to arrive
After his quarantine
He was also happy
His condition was pristine.

Demetrius was happy for the first time
He knew Lily was the girl of his dreams
The love he had for her was real
And would never be what it seems!

Lily turned to Demetrius
said she had things to gather
She would have to go home to collect
pictures of her father.

Demetrius offered to go with her
She insisted on going alone
"If I have any trouble" she said
I will contact you by phone.

Lily set off for home
Frightened of facing her past
That was the end of both of them
would Demetrius be alone at last?

[product thumbnail]

The couple arrived home
and went to Demitrius’s pad
Lucky was so excited
Lily frowned upon him all sad.

Demetrius was tired and haggard
As he lay on the bed to rest
For the last few days before him
Was real and a troublesome test.

Just one thing was troubling them
As they rested from the flight
Would the men come after them?
This gave Lily a fright.

Demetrius said we need to move
Far away from this place
Be on the run forevermore
Disappear without a trace.

They both made plans to move away
After all what was keeping them there?
Her brother gone no family as such
It seems life wasn't fair.

Demetrius had no one
Except his faithful pet
So the idea of them moving on
was appealing to him as yet.

They both toasted their new life
In a country far away
Tomorrow they would pack up, get away
And face another day.

The doctor arrived quickly
Asking for money up front
Demetrius knew in Europe
You couldn't pull a stunt.

There were no questions asked
As the Doctor brought lily back
You could see he was professional
he wasn't any quack.

Lily's first sight was Demetrius
As she tried to smile in vein
Her eyes were rolling around her head
trying to engage her brain.

Two days later with Demetrius's care
Lily was awake at last
In no hurry to tell her the truth
Demetrius held her tightly and fast.

Now was the time to tell her
Of her brothers sudden demise
Lily looked at Demetrius
And uttered "that's no surprise"

He did not tell her about Danny
As she never  knew him anyway
For now the pain was over
And they could get back home today.

[product thumbnail]

Demetrius walked to the back
Of a building that was very large
He was going to be very careful
He wasn't going to charge.

Inside was empty and desolate
Gallon tins were lined in a row
A conveyor belt was loaded with bottles
Shining with a golden glow.

Voices could be heard as he passed
Boxes piled up against the wall
He knocked into some in error
Frightened they would fall.

The voices became even louder
A he neared the hidden room
There were at least three of them
Picking up a heavy broom.

He waited patiently for movement
His patience had paid off
Two burly men dawned in black
One of them had a bad cough.

Demetrius tried to get a glance
From the widened wooden door
He managed to see a silhouette
Lying on the floor.

He rushed the room when the men had left
Confronted with only one guy
He smashed the broom over his head
Then punched him in the eye.

The guy was flat out cold
As Demetrius looked on the floor
Lily had been drugged
Lifted her and made for the door.

Demetrius made his way back
To the hotel with Lily in tow
He called for a doctor
Looking for a blanket to throw.

Morning came so fast
As Demetrius got ready to go
The sun was shining through the blinds
And the heat stood ready to grow.

At least the locals spoke English
Which helped him in his plight?
He had hoped to get to the place
Before the start of night.

He was looking for a factory
That produced olive oil by the ton
Music played aloud in the streets
He knew there was no time for fun.

The place was ten miles out of town
He managed to thumb down a car
He asked the driver were he was headed
And luckily he was going that far.

Nothing was said in the vehicle
As the driver hummed a tune
The radio was playing songs he liked
Demetrius wasn't in the mood for a croon.

The car stopped in this barren place
As the driver pointed the way
The factory was almost visible
He was glad he reached it by day.

Demetrius stopped in his tracks
Looking at the land around
Nothing moved the place was silent
Hoping it was the right place he found.

Demetrius landed in Rome
The sun was shining so hard
The heat was exhilarating
As he showed customs his card.

The staff gave him a sullen look
As he picked up his overnight bag
Lily was the only thing on his mind
And how he would deal with this slag.

The hotel wasn't anything special
Sub standard came to mind
As he booked in at the desk
The receptionist spoke quite kind.

He was given hotel room thirteen
Which summed up his luck to date?
So far nothing had gone right
Which basically sealed his fate?

He showered and rested on the bed
And gave thought of his plan
How would he set Lily Free?
And over power this clan.

For now it was time to rest
And have a bite to eat
He picked up the service phone
Whilst rubbing at his feet.

He asked the boy about a building
Mentioned by Charlie last night
The boy looked at Demetrius strangely
Rushing away in fright.

Demetrius now was on edge
Wondering what he now faced
But as long as he saved Lily
And hoped she could be traced.

[product thumbnail]

The burning question for Demetrius
Was what had happened to Lily?
Although he was sad for Danny
Who shouldn't have been so silly?

Charlie's voice was solemn
As he spoke in stutters and stammers
Demetrius feared the worst by now
The Mother to end all dramas.

Demetrius told him to spit it out
He needed to know the truth
Because life had taught him recently
That he needed all the proof.

Charlie told him the awful news
As Demetrius went silent on the phone
Lily had been kidnapped
The only sound was the dialling tone.

Five minutes later Demetrius called
To get all the info he needed
It appeared that Lily was in Rome
To the airport Demetrius speeded.

The reason she was kidnapped
Her brother was to get the drugs back
Lily was the incentive
For her brother to produce the entire crack.

Needless to say he didn't produce
The drugs or the cash
So his fate was sealed that night
By thugs who his body would thrash.

Demetrius was frantic
As he boarded the plane that night
Lucky was at the neighbours
He wanted to prepare his plight.

Danny Gone and the first man dead
Was baffling Demetrius to madness
All this killing and no Lily
Was driving him to sadness.

Demetrius called his last contact
He knew this guy was a winner
Yeah ok he liked his booze
And was on and off a sinner.

Charlie owned a scrap yard
Were more than cars were sold?
He had two henchmen who ran the gaff
Who were always tough and bold?

Demetrius had put some business
Down old Charlie's way
And favours were returned
Almost every other day.

Again he picked up the telephone
And got one of Charlie's men
He passed the phone over to his boss
Eavesdropping on all the gen.

It was lucky that Charlie's contacts
Were able to get Demetrius his news
Again he was owed a favour
By one of his majesties screws.

It turns out the man who was killed
Was Lily's little brother?
He was deeply involved with drugs
And would even sell his Mother.

The reason Danny was killed
Was because he had stolen drugs
The powers to be had caught him
By sending out their thugs.

Demetrius shouted for Danny
As the door had no knocker or bell
And tapping the wood was hopeless
As Danny was as deaf as hell.

No answer came Demetrius was worried
As he started to go round the back
And just as he veered towards the door
He heard a loud bang and crack.

Quickly running in the back door
He saw a tall man beating his friend
The man saw Demetrius and started to run
As Lucky made a plunge to defend.

The man got clear of Lucky
Whose teeth were bared and sharp?
If they had made connection
The man would be playing a harp.

Danny was lying in a pool of blood
Demetrius held his head in his lap
Gurgling words from his slashed throat
This was the end of this chap.

Demetrius was handed a note by his friend
Before he got Lucky and went
The note had a name and number
Soaked in blood crumpled and bent.

Two men dead and a mystery note
Demetrius was back at the start
He had this unknown number
And two deaths that wasn't so smart.

Demetrius asked Danny to find out
What happened to the man in the house?
Danny was well known for his detection
And could go around like a church mouse.

Danny wanted to help his friend
But was sworn to silence with this case
There was more to this than meets the eye
But Demetrius was determined to chase.

His old friend promised to try and find
A snippet of info for him
Demetrius was happy with that
As the alternative was grim.

Demetrius also asked his friend
To make enquiries about lily
At this point his blood ran cold
And his room became all chilly.

Demetrius felt she was still alive
His heart wouldn't accept the worst
Even though deep down he was annoyed
In his mind he knew he had been cursed.

Days and nights slowly passed
Lucky knew his master was sad
Demetrius paced the linoleum floor
Waiting for news good or bad.

A week went by no news had came
Demetrius couldn't wait any longer
The more he stayed at home in stress
His determination grew stronger.

Demetrius paid his old friend a visit
Lucky was as usual by his side
The dog knew that something was wrong
But stood firm with his master with pride.

Demetrius ended up running home
Shocked and tired was he
Who was the man laying there?
He could not let it be.

It was time to bring some contacts in
Demetrius needed some advice
Grudgingly he picked up the phone
And put it down again twice.

He grabbed a bottle of Scotch
And lay down on his bed
His head was spinning like a top
And wondered if Lily was dead.

Morning came he looked so bad
Unshaven haggard and sick
He looked into the mirror again
And smashed it with a stick.

The paper hit his front door
In the usual noisy way
And on the front page to no surprise
MAN FOUND DEAD TODAY...

Still nothing about his identity
Or how he had been killed
The papers were being sly
When usually they're filled.

Demetrius lifted the phone again
Determined to see this through
He called an old mate named Danny
An old friend and retired screw.

Danny got a shock when Demetrius called
As he had not heard from him in years
The last time both men met
Was when Demetrius went down in tears?

Demetrius arrived at the door
There was no light inside her home
It was as if the place was empty
As he wrapped the letterbox of chrome.

No one answered the taps were echoing
And a lady came to the window
She said "no one lives in that house"
As her face was lit with a glow.

Demetrius was now raging
As he battered down the door
What was to confront him now?
A man dead on the floor.

The place was void of furniture
Nothing to say Lily lived there
The man had been dead for ages now
As the stench filled the night air.

As the sound of Police arriving
Hit the quietness of the street
Demetrius left the house at speed
Dripping with blood from his feet.

The Police gave chase in force
As Demetrius climbed over a fence
Panic on his unshaven face
Adrenalin kept him in suspense.

A young and vibrant copper
Almost caught Demetrius in chase
He was being very careful
That the lad did not see his face.

Finally Demetrius gave him the slip
As he breathed a sigh of relief
Sirens were bawling out everywhere
As he got a glimpse of the chief.

Was I dreaming the last few days?
This mystery woman came into my life
And grabbed me in so many ways.

I need to find out I cannot sleep
My emotions are running amok
When I saw her running that day
Dressed in her long navy smock.

The dreams I have as I lie awake
Are pounding my head with a hammer
I must find out what happened to her
Like an itch or an annoying stammer.

Why did she choose me that night?
Did she think I was game?
I know I am not anything special
Not any big man with a name.

This mystery has to be answered
I must go see her right away
Go to her home and confront her
And I must go there today.

Demetrius woke at around ten
His bed sheets soaking with sweat
Lucky was right by his side
His faithful loving pet.

He couldn't wait to shower and dress
Needing to know what happened to Lily
He put on his blue suit from the closet
And thought that his tie looked silly.

Lucky stayed with the neighbour
As Demetrius made his way to the club
Remembering the first time he went
Thinking it was just a plain pub.

Pushing the door he entered with grace
As smart as a new shiny pin
The club was quiet and solemn
Not like the usual din.

Making his way to the bar
He didn't recognise any faces
Were was his darling he wondered
As he straightened out his braces.

Lily was absent no sign of her there
As he looked in every niche and corner
The barmaid stared at Demetrius by now
As she tried to understand a foreigner.

"Have you seen Lily" he asked with panic
As the barmaid went about her chores
"Lily who" she looked bewildered
Demetrius headed for the doors.

Dazed and stunned he headed home
Not knowing what this was about
I think I will pay her a visit
She is real I have no doubt.

Lily fell asleep in Demetrius's arms
The park got busy and hot
Birds flew down to scavenge for food
Whilst a mother bowed kissing her tot.

Baseball players shouting for the ball
It landed in the widened stream
A little boy jumped in to the pond
While onlookers let out a scream.

Demetrius stared at Lily's eyes
In awe at this beauty with him
Lily stirred as if getting a fright
She awoke from a nightmare so grim.

She got up fast and ran from Demetrius
Still clutching her golden bag
He ran after her with all his strength
With the fake fur having to drag.

Lily didn't stop running for ages
Demetrius was out of breath
She stopped outside her little house
Looking as if she saw death.

"You can't come in" she said with power
Demetrius was puzzled by this
She slammed the door in his face
Before that she blew him a kiss.

Demetrius left and couldn't believe
What had come over this mysterious gal?
Eventually he left bamboozled and sad
As he went home to see his pal.

Lucky was at the front door
Wagging his tail with joy
"There now boy" Demetrius said
As Lucky dropped his favourite toy.

Lily put on her fake fur coat
As Demetrius swallowed a brandy
Words were few as Lily locked up
Thinking how she looked dandy.

Closing the door on their way out
Tossing the daily paper on the floor
Hand in hand they walked down the street
Demetrius did not know the score.

Lily led them to the little Park
She often had paid a visit to
Not even tired up twenty four hours
Demetrius wondered what she would do.

They stopped to look at the swans
Who were feeding their young by the bank?
Sparrows were tweeting in harmony
As the water level shrank.

Bees were buzzing around their heads
Only focusing on flowers in the park
Dogs were barking in harmony
And some were chasing a lark.

Joggers ran through the gardens
Some of them stopping to take in the view
Milk bottles rattled in the background
As the milkman dropped of a few.

Demetrius and Lily sat on the bench
Watching the park coming alive
Children started playing
Some as young as five.

The night was winding down, clients  leaving
As the pianist played a solemn tune
The smoke filled air added to the mood
As a couple danced the floor in a swoon.

As the night was ending Lily's looks didn't fade
Fingers dripping with diamonds and gold
A neck that was beautiful in even dulled light
Glittering with a necklace of bold.

Demetrius stared as the night had wound down
And wondered what made this woman tick
Only a few stragglers left and the club staff
And a guy in the corner being sick.

Lily directed the lad behind the bar
To clean up the mess he had made
She glanced at Demetrius and smiled at him
Thinking maybe he made the grade.

Lily dismissed the staff in the club
And started to move to the juke box
Pouring two brandies with ice in the glass
She moved around the bar like a fox.

Not a word was said as the drinks were downed
She pointed to the floor with her eyes
They lit up like a Christmas tree
To Demetrius that was no surprise.

They danced into the early hours
As daylight burst into the bar
Shadows of silhouettes in the dawn light
Was magical by far.

Her beauty  lit up the place
Dressed in clingy expensive clothes
Of satin bright red lace.

Demetrius looked at her in awe
As she poured him his usual drink
She had seen this unkempt stranger before
But right now she couldn't think.

The two stared each other out
As voices of thirsty men were raised
Ignoring all the din around her
Even men who's pride were grazed.

DAILY POEM "INN OF HAPPINESS" PART 5

[product thumbnail]
Demetrius had one good friend
He knew he could always trust
He met his faithful dog Lucky
Through jealousy and lust.

Lucky belonged to one of his pals
he was brought into a neglected life
All his friend was interested in
Was his booze and his envious wife.

Carla hated the dog from the start
Because attentions were not on her
All she cared about was being number one
her lavish lifestyle and fake fur.

At every opportunity she blamed the dog
For acts he couldn't possibly have done
She even picked up dirt from the garden
Making a disgusting mess with one.

Demetrius spotted Lucky was unhappy
Dodging the bottles thrown at him
Living outside in a run down kennel
The poor guy’s life was grim.

Benny offered Demetrius a game of cards
Poker was his fascination
Name your price if you think you’re good
Said Benny in anticipation.

Demetrius knew this was his chance
To play for what he really wanted
For no longer could he look at Lucky
Unhappy and basically haunted.

Demetrius had the winning hand that night
 Benny packed all Lucky's gear
From that day on and to this day
Lucky lived without any fear.

The music was loud in the background
As Demetrius walked into the bar
Women dancing half clad
As guys leered on from afar.

Everyone knew Demetrius
His reputation followed him in
Glares and looks that could kill
Had hurt him from within.

[product thumbnail]
Born into a world cold and harsh
Demetrius experienced no compassion
An orphan at the age of six
Love was a word  always rationed.

No education to speak of, no one cared
Just left to his own devices
He could not care he was a shell
All he cared for was his vices.

Getting in tow with all bad sorts
Fighting , making a name
Demetrius went with the pack
Everything to him was a game.

An alcoholic at the age of sixteen
Drugs were part of his life
Never knowing kindness or family ways
All he knew was strife.

At twenty one he killed a man
Spending ten years in jail
His reputation preceded him
In prison he became frail.

The ten years he spent of his life
Ducking and diving causing fear
But secretly in his cot at night
He often shed a tear.

When he came out that rainy night
He went straight back to his way
Despite his attempts to rehabilitate
The temptation was there every day.

His so called friends who knew his plight
Extorted him for all they could get
Knowing his childhood was far from rosy
they used him without any regret.

DAILY POEM"INN OF HAPPINESS" PART 3

[product thumbnail]
At the bottom of the aged tree
Was a heart shaped design of old?
Baring the names of the two here now
Carved out in bold.

Silence filled the air that night
As they got up and walked towards home
Two lost souls with a dog in tow
United and to no longer roam.

Walking together in silence
Just two lonely souls hand in hand
She passed her door ,walking by
Recalling when life was just grand.

In the early days of life on the edge
Nothing would stand in her way
In her youth she was just bullet proof
In those days she would want to stay.

A man was like a bus she would say
If you missed one another would come by
In those days when she was beautiful
They would swoop around her like a fly.

Waking up in strangers homes
With a head that was torn and light
In the end the abuse would come
Always the loser in a fight.

Drugs ten a penny easily got
With the circles she mixed in long ago
Going to alleys to get her fix
Who cared who was watching her glow?

Lost in her thoughts she was all alone
Oblivious of the man and his pet
It was because of their meeting tonight
She was consumed , flooded with sweat.

DAILY POEM "INN OF HAPPINESS" PART 2

[product thumbnail]
Walking down the cobbled street
Her Stiletto's loud in the night
Looking around her as she walked
Nervous without any light.

Seeing her reflection in the shop window
Made her cringe in dismay
To think I used to be beautiful she thought
Aged in this mask today.

Nearly home enjoying the air
She stopped and saw the man
Wondering what she would say to him
maybe a "hello" if she can!

She remembered the time she asked him to leave
Over a spilled glass of beer
His eyes were wild ,red with rage
somehow it made her fear.

But apart from that she had to stop
To show no feelings were bad
He was sitting amongst the flowering bushes
His dog moved his tail, just a tad.

Wagging  his tail in joyous formation
Happy with meeting someone new
Knowing his master was growingly unhappy
Trying to make him come through.

She spoke to the man receiving no response
His vision was pointing to the stream
As if he wasn’t there at all
Stuck in some sort of dream.

Eventually he looked right into her eyes
Sadness was all she could see
She took his hand into her own
Then turned their attention to the tree.

The same old tree had been there for years
Memories of when they were both young
Carved in the tree were sentences
Of lyrics they once had sung.
